Two Tar Heels Up For ESPY Awards
CHAPEL HILL - University of North Carolina student-athletes Crystal Dunn and Kara Cannizzaro both are nominees for the ESPY award for Best Female College Athlete. The 2013 ESPYS will be televised live Wednesday, July 17, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN from in Los Angeles, Calif.
Cannizzaro and Dunn are scheduled to be in attendance at the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre L.A.
Cannizzaro won the Honda Award for women's lacrosse and was the Most Outstanding Player in the 2013 NCAA Tournament after leading the Tar Heels to a triple overtime victory in the national title game against top-ranked Maryland. She had four goals in the national semifinals and four goals and two assists in the title game.
Dunn led the Tar Heels to a 4-1 victory over Penn State at the 2012 NCAA Women's College Cup. She scored goals in the first four games of the tournament and assisted on goals in both College Cup games, including the game-winner against Stanford.
The 2013 ESPYS will be hosted by actor Jon Hamm. Fans will determine the winners in all ESPY categories (except the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and other special awards) by voting online at ESPN.com/espys, on the ESPN Mobile Web app or via Twitter using the hashtag #ESPYSBestTeam and the team name.
The ESPYS honor ESPN's commitment to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a partnership launched with the late Jim Valvano at the inaugural ESPYS in 1993.
