Myers Sparks Tar Heels In Scrimmage

CHAPEL HILL --- Freshman infielder Wood Myers had four hits and freshman Zac Gallen tossed three scoreless innings to lead the Blue team to a 5-4 win over the Navy team in Carolina's first fall scrimmage Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium.

Matt Roberts knocked a two-run homer to left and Tom Zengel had a pair of hits for the Navy squad.

Gallen retired nine of the 11 batters he faced, allowing one hit and one walk and striking out a pair. Myers singled in all four of his at-bats in the seven-inning game and made a diving grab at short.

Zach Daly, Brandon Whiteford and Landon Lassiter also had RBI hits for the Blue team. Freshman A.J. Bogucki started for the Navy squad and struck out three in two innings.

Carolina will continue fall practice this month before taking on the Ontario Blue Jays at Boshamer Stadium on Sept. 30.
