Hospital Tradition Provides Pregame Highlight
On the eve of the season's first home game, North Carolina football players kept up what has become a pregame tradition, visiting with patients at UNC Children's Hospital. The participants vary week to week - this Friday it was Alex Bales, Allen Champagne, Jarrod James, Shakeel Rashad and Nathan Staub - but without fail, Carolina players visit the hospital on Fridays before home games.
The Tar Heels went room-to-room on three floors of hospital and also stopped in the ICU to pose for pictures, pass out posters and offer encouragement. "The kids love it, and I think the players get just as much out of it," said DanDan Hua, a Student-Athlete Development intern who coordinates the visits as part of UNC's Carolina Outreach program. "It's a highlight of the week for everyone who goes."
