Carolina Breaks Scoring Record In Win Over UNO
North Carolina (9-2) scored the first 17 points of the game, led 30-2 and went on to set a second school record for largest margin of victory with the 83-point win.
Freshmen Diamond DeShields and Allisha Gray each scored 20 points to lead the Tar Heels. Latifah Coleman recorded the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 12 assists, Jessica Washington also scored 13 points and both Danielle Butts and Stephanie Mavunga each added 11 points.
Butts came off the bench to record nine rebounds and eight steals to go with her 11 points. McDaniel had a game-topping 10 boards.
The Tar Heels led 72-18 at halftime.
Octavia Wilson led New Orleans (0-9) with a game-high 21 points.
Carolina shot 64.3 percent for the game, making 45 baskets on 70 attempts. The team also made 14 three-pointers and went 20-of-26 from the free throw line.
The previous record for most points in a game was 121 against Mercer on Nov. 29, 1985. The largest margin of victory was 77 points in a 109-32 win on Nov. 9, 2007.
In the process, Carolina recorded its first back-to-back 100 point games since 2009-10.
North Carolina will play No. 10 South Carolina on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
