UNC 14th In Directors' Cup Standings

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina is 14th in the first set of fall Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, released this week.  Carolina is third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the first rankings, trailing No. 3 Florida State and No. 12 Virginia. 

Carolina's 115 points were powered by its second-place national finish in field hockey and a 32nd-place finish by women's cross country.  The Tar Heels are still alive in NCAA Tournament play in women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball this weekend.

Princeton has scored a high of 195.00 points, capturing the field hockey title, finishing 11th in men's cross country and 32nd overall in women's cross country.

Defending LSDC champion Stanford is in second with 168.50 points after a third-place showing in women's cross country and 16th-place finish in men's cross country.

In third is Florida State with 155.00 points and a fourth-place finish in women's cross country and a fifth-place finish in men's cross country.

Oregon is in fourth with a total of 154.00 points after capturing the women's cross country title and finishing 20th overall in the men's cross country championship.

Rounding out the top five is Michigan with 151.00 total points, finishing fifth in women's cross country, ninth in field hockey and 23rd in men's cross country.

The Pac-12 leads all conferences with three institutions in the top 10 - Stanford (2nd), Oregon (4th) and Colorado (9th).

To date, three fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women's cross country - Oregon; men's cross country -Oklahoma State; field hockey - Princeton.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's.

The next Division I fall standings will be released Thursday, December 13.
