Tar Heels Fall To No. 10 Maryland, 85-59
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Alyssa Thomas had 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, and 10th-ranked Maryland beat No. 11 North Carolina 85-59 Thursday night to end the Tar Heels' 11-game winning streak.
Thomas fell two assists short of her second career triple-double and Chloe Pavlech scored 18 for the Terrapins (16-3, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Maryland has won six straight since falling to North Carolina on Jan. 3. Tianna Hawkins finished with a game-high 25.
Krista Gross and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt each scored 15 for the Tar Heels (18-2, 6-1), who fell for just the second time this season. North Carolina went 1 for 19 from 3-point range and allowed a season-high 58 percent shooting in the loss.
UNC led briefly in the first half after a 6-0 run made it 18-17, but Maryland made the decisive run going into the locker room. The Terrapins outscored Carolina 20-7 the rest of the half and Ruffin-Pratt picked up her third foul just before the break.
The Tar Heels will return to action Sunday at 2 p.m. when they visit Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
