Stubbs Named ACC Player Of The Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior first baseman Cody Stubbs has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State’s Brandon Leibrandt claimed Pitcher of the Week honors.
Stubbs paced No. 1 North Carolina to 40 runs in a perfect 4-0 week as he crossed the plate seven times and drove in eight more. Stubbs registered three multi-hit games on the week and hit .500 (7-of-14) with a 1.143 slugging percentage. Five of his seven hits went for extra bases as he tallied three doubles and a pair of home runs. The current doubles leader in the ACC, Stubbs connected on a two-bagger in each game of UNC’s weekend sweep at Wake Forest. The Waynesville, N.C., native reached base 11 times and posted a team-high .579 on-base percentage for the week.
Leibrandt led the way as No. 5 Florida State opened ACC play with a 4-0 shutout victory over Boston College. Leibrandt tied a career-high by working 8.0 innings and limited BC to just one hit. The sophomore southpaw no-hit the Eagles for 7.1 innings before John Hennessy singled through the left side of the infield for the Eagles’ only hit of the game. The Alpharetta, Ga., native kept BC’s hitters off-balance throughout the game, and only one runner reached second base. Leibrandt left the game at the end of the eighth inning after throwing 105 pitches.
